Livin’ in the Money Pit
April 29, 2008 | 2 Comments
Yes, I live in the money pit. It’s a 100 year old Victorian in an historic district in Denver. We’ve done a lot of work to the house and every time we think we are close to “finished”, something happens to remind me that I’m not in charge, the house is.
About a week ago, we started noticing some “gurgling” in the toilets. Then we ran the dishwasher one night and the downstairs bathtub filled with water. Not a good sign.
Then, after we had made the appointment with our plumber - you know, the guy in the Porsche - the flood came. The entire sewer line backed up into the downstairs bathroom. In a word: disgusting.
So, today, I’m working from home managing the:
Plumber
The camera guy that scopes the line
The guy that has the excavator to dig the hole
The plumber who clears the blockage and fixes the pipe
The inspector who inspects the work for the city
And finally, the excavator guy that puts the dirt back in the hole.
All this while I pee in a camping toilet on the back deck and write checks like they’re going out of style…

Foreclosure Heat Map - It Looks HOT
April 25, 2008 | 1 Comment
A friend of mine showed me a website that has a foreclosure “heat map.” A heat map shows you where the action is - red for hot and blue for cold.
The first time I ever used a heat map was back when I was investing in stock options on a regular basis. I would go to http://www.nasdaq.com every morning before the market opened to see what was trading hot after hours. And I could ususally get make a few bucks at the opening bell.
Visit HotPads at http://hotpads.com/pages/features/foreclosures.htm to see if you’re getting warmer…
